My name is Samuel Rui de Mendonça e Silva. I was born in 1992 and I’m from near Porto, Portugal. I started my artistic path in childhood, when I was encouraged to draw and elaborate creative artworks by my father. However, as years went by, I came across other ideologies and I ended up in University of Coimbra, Portugal, to graduate in Philosophy.
Regarding my aesthetics, I’m attracted to dramatic truths and nihilistic ideas. To me, real life is strange and feverish. I believe is those feelings I’m passing on to my artworks, being them sculptures, paintings or texts. In them, the world is represented as I experience it.
Ceramics is a way to achieve an end and my preferred artistic medium of communication. Its moulding matter and the opportunity to mould it at my will and pleasure allow me to explore the diversity of forms, colours and expressions, and other complemented materials.
